Who is the insurer?

Insurance is provided by U-PIC Insurance Services.

Please note: The coverage rules outlined below apply only to packages that originate in the United Kingdom and are insured using the Buy Now or Multi Buy options on our website.

U-PIC Coverage Details

Coverage is provided pursuant to an Open Cover arrangement and is subject to the applicable Institute Cargo Clauses, Institute War Clauses, and Institute Strikes Clauses, as incorporated therein.

What is insured?

  1. Physical loss or damage to your goods whilst in transit.
  2. The limit is the total sum insured that you have requested and agreed with the U-PIC Insurance Services, Inc. and is specified in the documentation.

What is not covered?

  1. Transits involving barge movements.
  2. Loss damage or expense attributable to your wilful misconduct.
  3. Mechanical electrical derangement unless there is evidence of external damage to the insured item or its packing.
  4. Heating, sweating, inherent vice and/or any loss or damage caused by atmospheric conditions.
  5. Acts of terrorism, when the goods are outside the ordinary course of transit.
  6. Loss or damage from or liability or expense directly or indirectly caused by or contributed to, by, or arising from Radioactive Contamination, Biological, Bio -Chemical and Electromagnetic Weapons.
  7. This insurance does not insure any loss, damage, liability, claim, cost or expense of whatsoever nature caused by, contribute resulting from, arising out of, or in connection with a Communicable Disease or the fear or threat (whether actual or perceived Communicable Disease regardless of any other cause or event contributing concurrently or in any other sequence thereto.
  8. Loss, damage, corruption, or reinstatement of data, software, digital content, licences, configurations, or proprietary code.
  9. Loss or damage to parcels that are addressed, wrapped, or packed in a manner that is insufficient, incorrect, or not compliant with the carrier's published packaging standards and requirements.
  10. Loss or damage where parcels are not shipped in full and strict compliance with all applicable regulations, standards, and requirements of the carrier, including any amendments thereto.

In respect of Artwork and Antiques:

  1. Excluding loss or damage arising from or attributable to natural ageing or gradual deterioration; wear and tear through ordinary use; mechanical or electrical failure or breakdown; inherent or latent defects in the item; warping, shrinkage, rust, or oxidation; and infestation or damage caused by moths or vermin.
  2. Excluding precious stones (e.g., diamonds, rubies, sapphires) and semi-precious stones (e.g., amethyst, garnet) whether in raw form or incorporated into other items; precious metals (e.g., gold, silver, platinum) whether in raw form or incorporated into other items; watches; coins, bullion, banknotes, and other forms of currency or monetary instruments.
  3. Depreciation, or any loss of value following repair, replacement or restoration.

In respect of Jewellery:

  1. Excluding precious stones (e.g., diamonds, rubies, sapphires) and semi-precious stones (e.g., amethyst, garnet) whether in raw form or incorporated into other items; precious metals (e.g., gold, silver, platinum) whether in raw form or incorporated into other items; watches; coins, bullion, banknotes, and other forms of currency or monetary instruments.

Are there any restrictions on cover?

  1. Pairs and Sets Clause / Pairs, Sets, and Collections Clause (Artwork & Antiques):
    • Where any items are part of a pair or set, cover is only provided for the actual parts which are lost or damaged. No payment will be made for articles that are not lost or damaged.
  2. Depreciation Clause:
    • Cover is restricted to the reasonable cost of repair and no claim is recoverable in respect of depreciation. In no case shall repairs exceed the sum insured in respect of the damaged article.
  3. Average Clause:
    • The sum insured must be adequate; if the goods are of greater value than the sum insured then you will be your own insurer for the difference and bear a proportionate share of any claim.

Where am I covered?

  1. The insured goods are covered during the ordinary course of transit between the departure location and the arrival destination as agreed with the U-PIC Insurance Services, Inc.

What are my obligations?

  1. Read the terms and conditions of the insurance carefully.
  2. Provide honest and accurate information, to the best of your knowledge.
  3. In the event of a claim: claims must be notified to U-PIC Insurance Services, Inc. and/or their Agents within 30 days after delivery of the property whether unpacked or not in the case of non-delivery within 7 days from when the property would normally be delivered.
  4. Do not repair or replace any damaged or missing property without the prior arrangement and agreement of insurers.

When and how do I pay?

  1. As agreed with U-PIC Insurance Services, Inc. either through arranging your insurance directly or by purchasing cover at the point of sale.
  2. You are required to pay the premium before you benefit from any cover.

When does the cover start and end?

  1. The duration of the transit specified with the terms of your contract with the U-PIC Insurance Services, Inc.

How do I cancel the contract?

  1. You have a statutory right to cancel the policy within 14 days from the date of concluding the contract, but once the goods have been collected for shipment, you will not be entitled to any refund on premium.
  2. If you wish to cancel the cover, you must notify the U-PIC Insurance Services, Inc. immediately.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the Underwriters have caused this Coverage to be executed and attested; however, this Coverage shall not be valid unless countersigned by a duly authorized representative of the Broker.
